Hotmail.com email problems with Windows 8 mail and outlook 2010

I will apologise now for this long winded post.   I recently purchased a new laptop with Windows 8.  I set up the Microsoft ID with a new outlook.com hotmail email address and downloaded Office Professional Plus.  I set up Outlook with the 64 bit connector and all was fine.  Yesterday the email alerts popped up as usual but when I clicked on outlook to view the emails all my emails had disappeared.  I clicked send/receive and got the message that it couldn't verify my POP3 account, even though I could log into the hotmail account directly using the same login details.  I deleted the account from MS Outlook and set it up again using the 64 bit connector which then set up a MAPI account.  Send/receive showed no errors but still no emails, not even the test messages I sent direct from Hotmail.  Settings showed the account to be send only as default and I wasn't able to change this.  I composed and sent a test message from MS Outlook, clcicked send, clicked show progress, no errors and the email didn't show up in the inbox or as a sent email.

I then gave up on Outlook and looked at Windows 8 Mail.  No emails were showing until I  changed the settings to sync content and suddenly there are all my emails, even the test email sent from MS Outlook.  The problem is it shows my sent emails as being from outlook_52eac(long line of numbers)outlook.com on behalf of ...

So my questions are:

1. How can I change my @hotmail.com settings to show email recipients that it's from me, not outlook_(long line of numbers) etc., on behalf of ...

2. How can I configure MS Outlook to just simply do what it is supposed to do i.e. send and receive emails!

3. Why has Microsoft Windows designed Windows 8 and Outlook default settings to be so user unfriendly that you have to change all the settings in order for it to function.

I am by no means technical and very near to pulling my hair out.  Any help gratefully received.

Outlook slow to open

I use Outlook 2013 as a component of Office 365 Home. There are two user accounts on my Win 7 computer. Both users have IMAP email accounts. One has two mailboxes and the other has only one mailbox. For either user, Outlook 2013 takes 90 seconds to open. I have run the Repair utility in Outlook. I have not created a new profile for either user. On a Win 8.1 notebook, Outlook opens almost instantly. What can I do to cause Outlook to start faster on my Win 7 computer?

"Send" problems with Microsoft Outlook 2010

I use Microsoft Outlook as the client for all of my e-mail accounts. My e-mail accounts include Comcast.net, AOL.com, Gmail.com and Outlook.com. Over the past few days, I have not been able to send e-mail using Microsoft Outlook. I still receive e-mail through my Microsoft Outlook account, but I cannot send e-mail. Any e-mail that I attempt to send, goes into the "outbox" folder where it remains. When I open the "outbox" and click on the e-mail(s) stuck there, I receive a message advising me that I cannot open the "outgoing item" as it is in the process of "being sent." After a while, Microsoft Outlook stops trying to send the e-mail and shows "None" under the "Sent" tab. After this happens, the e-mail remains stuck in the "outbox" but is accessible. When I open the e-mail then try sending it again, nothing happens. It remains in the "outbox" without being sent.

To check if I was experiencing problems with my e-mail providers rather than with Microsoft Outlook, I went directly to each provider account and sent test messages; they all sent perfectly and were received without problem by Microsoft Outlook as well as into each others provider account e.g. e-mail sent from comcast provider account to Gmail etc.

I don't receive any error message from Microsoft Outlook when an e-mail fails to send. I have uninstalled then reinstalled the complete Office Suite 2010 Professional but the problem remains. Any suggestions?

Office 2003 and 2013

A few months ago when we would bring up Office email and screen would pop up saying MobileMe has stopped working.  We bring up the Task Manager and it ways MobileMe and Outlook are running. So we had to do some finagling to finally get into our email.   Because of these problems we purchased Office 2013 and it is still doing the same thing. Please advise how this can be corrected.  We do not have Icloud installed and reading reviews it appears these 2 are related. Help Help!!

How to disable the auto-hide feature of vertical scroll bar in the Folders pane of Outlook 2013

$

I have just installed Office 2013. In Outlook 2013 the vertical scroll bar in the Folder pane auto-hides itself when the mouse pointer is not in the pane. This means that when I want to go back to the Folder pane to move the scroll bar up or down I cannot go directly to its position on the screen since its not visible, so I have to move the mouse pointed to a random point in the pane, which causes the scroll bar to reappear, and then I have a visual target to move my mouse pointer to.

Madness! I am not sure what purpose this serves since the space freed up by the scroll bar is not use to extend the display of the folder names, so it seems that the only reason might be to reduce what some might perceive as 'screen clutter'. But the scroll bar position serves a useful purpose.

So is it possible to disable this auto-hiding so that the scroll bar is always visible.

Scheduling email delivery

I want to schedule all regular emails from my Office 365 Outlook to be send only between 7 am and 6 pm.

So basically all emails would be scheduled for delivery unless they are flagged as high priority.

Is there a way to do this in outlook?

Cannot delete Outlook Calendar

Hi

I have in the past had numerous calendars for organisational purposes. I have tried and been relatively successful in deleting most of the unwanted calendars I no longer need. However, I am having difficulty in removing the last couple of calendars I know longer need as when I right click on the calendar the delete button is greyed out.

on further research I found out that I needed to go to outlook.com to delete the calendars from there but upon logging in I also found that these calendars didn't appear in outlook.com either.

Please help!!

As you can see from my first picture I have a few different calendars still available. I want to delete the MY ASICS and calendar(1) from My Calendars and also the MY ASICS from Other Calendars.

thanks

Outlook 2013 Task management and layout views

Please help me restore the layout on my Outlook 2013 Task window. While I can set up the To-Do feature using the Layout menu, the column is empty and shows a message - 'we can't find anything to show here'. Many of my tasks have due date settings and I would expect to see the current or late tasks to be shown in this column.

Back ground: I did have this window set up exactly as I wanted with all my tasks on the left and the current/late tasks highlighted in red in the to-do column. However like an idiot I played around with the Outlook settings and lost all my data. My back up was several months old and as such contained many out of date tasks. When I first uploaded my data the to-do column  contained many out of date tasks which I moved across into the main task window but know I cannot get any tasks to come up in the to-do column and so cannot use Outlook to effectively manage my tasks.

Any suggestions?

George.

E-mails received or already sent appear as "Unsent" messages in Outlook (2010, 2013)

$

Starting with Office 2010 (now in 2013), Outlook sometimes (with a certain frequency, randomly it seems) corrupts messages that either we sent to me, or that I already sent, by setting them as an unsent message (they show up as DRAFT unsent messages in the folder where they were saved).

I searched for this problem in the forums and did not locate a similar problem.

Some details:

  • Operating in cached mode
  • I frequently edit messages to remove attachments (on occasion untouched messages also got corrupted)

I suspect the problem has to do with some sort of synchronization problem between the cached and server version of the messages.

Does anyone has it, and even better, has been able to find a fix to stop this behavior, but also to repair the damaged messages?

Thanks

Simao

Archiving Contacts in Outlook 2013

Just discovered that my Contacts are not Auto-Archived.

As far as I can see from the help files, it says

Contacts are not archived by default. However, you can manually archive them.

Is this really correct? Has no-one found a way to include them?

I've searched this forum, and not found any relevant answers.

Thanks

Particular .docx file, when attached, is not delivered along with other files

$

Hello,

Last week I faced with a very strange situation.

We have a Microsoft Exchange in our company. I sent an email using Outlook 2013 to my coworker, who also uses Outlook 2013, attaching 10 files to it, 9 of which were .docx files, and one was a .pdf file.

As I found out later - the recipient received only 5 of the 10 attached files. In my Sent Items folder I see all 10 files attached.

I performed some tests, and here are the results:

  1. Forwarded the same email from Sent Items to my personal Gmail account – got 5 files only.
  2. Sent an email to the same recipient attaching an email from Sent Items folder (which I sent to him previously with all 10 files attached) - when he opened the attached mail file, he saw all 10 files attached to it.
  3. Went to OWA site of our company and saw, that in Sent Items – the same email shows only 5 files, instead of 10, like in desktop Outlook.
  4. Created a new email, and sent it to myself, attaching the same 10 files – received only 5 of them.
  5. Created a new email, and sent it to myself, attaching only those 5 files, that were not delivered, as expected – got email without attachments at all.
  6. Created a new email through OWA and sent myself the same 10 files - received all of them.
  7. Used customer's email in the same Outlook (I have two accounts in my Outlook on my workstation) [they also use Microsoft Exchange] to send the same files to myself (customer's email) - also got 5 files only.
  8. Used my home Outlook 2013 and my personal GMail account to send the same files to my own GMail account - and I got all of them.

After investigating the problem with our Help Desk, we found out that the reason for these files being not delivered is problems with one of the files from the batch. A docx file, when opened, shows an error in FILE tab:Error: The server properties in this file cannot be displayed.

Whenever this file is attached - all other files, that were attached after it - are not delivered to the recipient, including this file itself.

After performing following actions with this faulty docx file - all files start receiving correctly:

Go to Info > Check for Issues > Inspect Document > Inspect > Remove All in Document Properties and Personal Information.

So basically my question is - why does Outlook keep ignoring this and all files after it, when attached and not delivering them as expected, even though they are all shown in Sent Items folder?

Also, if the reason is in this particular file - why do the rest files attached after it keep getting lost as well?

Hi,

I have problem with room finder in Outlook 2013.

I have added one room and assigned it to an distribution group. The room is shown when selecting room:

But there are no rooms available in the room finder:

How come?

The room is available (with correct status) in OWA:

I then guess it has to do about Outlook.

I have disabled Cahced Exchange on my client computer.

Any help would be appreciated :)

Office 365 Outlook - Emails send but don't receive

Hello,

I am setting up a new laptop that is running Windows 8.1 and Office 365.  I am having a bit of a problem setting up an email account with Outlook.

I am setting up an IMAP account for a colleague which is how her account was set up on her older Windows 7/Outlook 2010 laptop.

The problem is emails can be sent but nothing is received.  There aren't any errors either.

I contacted our server host (Liquid Web) and we spend the good part of an hour going over the settings and having them monitor when I send/receive.  They can see the email is successfully being sent/received by the server and our IP is not blocked.  He said perhaps Outlook was having a problem syncing the emails in the inbox.

My colleague is receiving/sending emails from her iPhone just fine and her old laptop is sending/receiving emails just fine.

Do you have any ideas on where we can go with this?

I look forward to your help :)

Cheers,

Dave

Drop FileGroupDescriptor to email body editor in Outlook 2013

Hi.

I have some problem when I drop attachment into email body editor in Outlook 2013 (x86). In my app I set FileGroupDescriptor, FileGroupDescriptorW and FileContents with TYMED.TYMED_ISTREAM. So I receive "The operation failed" warning.

I observe events in OutlookSpy for current email, and only one I can see - AttachmentRemove (IDispatch) event after I have dropped attachment

But when I drop to special attachments field, all is OK:

In ClipSpy I can see my data object:

With Outlook 2010 and 2007 all works good either I drop to body editor or to special attachments field.

So, does Outlook 2013 require some additional data to be presented? Or what actions can be wrong?

Thanks.

Sincerely, Igor.

How to you get Outlook 2010 to prompt for which email account to open when you open software?

I had Outlook 2010 installed on a laptop with Windows 7. I purchased a new laptop with Windows 8.1 and installed Office 2010 without any problems. On my old laptop, I had four separate email accounts and when I opened Outlook, I had it set to prompt me for which account to view. I prefer that over seeing all the accounts under the main account. I can't seem to find how to set Outlook to prompt for which account to open when Outlook starts up in Windows 8.1. Is it possible in 8.1? If yes, how?
