I will apologise now for this long winded post. I recently purchased a new laptop with Windows 8. I set up the Microsoft ID with a new outlook.com hotmail email address and downloaded Office Professional Plus. I set up Outlook with the 64 bit connector and all was fine. Yesterday the email alerts popped up as usual but when I clicked on outlook to view the emails all my emails had disappeared. I clicked send/receive and got the message that it couldn't verify my POP3 account, even though I could log into the hotmail account directly using the same login details. I deleted the account from MS Outlook and set it up again using the 64 bit connector which then set up a MAPI account. Send/receive showed no errors but still no emails, not even the test messages I sent direct from Hotmail. Settings showed the account to be send only as default and I wasn't able to change this. I composed and sent a test message from MS Outlook, clcicked send, clicked show progress, no errors and the email didn't show up in the inbox or as a sent email.
I then gave up on Outlook and looked at Windows 8 Mail. No emails were showing until I changed the settings to sync content and suddenly there are all my emails, even the test email sent from MS Outlook. The problem is it shows my sent emails as being from outlook_52eac(long line of numbers)outlook.com on behalf of ...
So my questions are:
1. How can I change my @hotmail.com settings to show email recipients that it's from me, not outlook_(long line of numbers) etc., on behalf of ...
2. How can I configure MS Outlook to just simply do what it is supposed to do i.e. send and receive emails!
3. Why has Microsoft Windows designed Windows 8 and Outlook default settings to be so user unfriendly that you have to change all the settings in order for it to function.
I am by no means technical and very near to pulling my hair out. Any help gratefully received.
